It’s about to be all about Obi-Wan this spring. Firstly, we all have Kenobi on the brain from the upcoming Disney+ series. I mean, c’mon, McGregor and Christensen together again? Who says no? Well, that won’t be all we see of the historic duo. In fact, we’re likely getting both the Disney+ series the same month Marvel confirmed a brand new comic run. Christopher Cantwell is set to write a new Marvel’s Obi-Wan comic series detailing the Star Wars Jedi’s entire life across a five-issue run. Entitled Star Wars: Obi-Wan the author shared some of his thoughts on the series direct with Star Wars’ official website. Here’s what we learned about the upcoming series.

Firstly, let’s talk about how busy May is going to be for Obi-Wan Fans. Firstly, The Hollywood Reporter is backing up rumors that the Obi-Wan Kenobi series on Disney+ is likely coming in May 2022. Accompanying the show starring Ewan McGregor will be Marvel’s Obi-Wan comic series, per an announcement from Star Wars. It’s an exciting time for fans of the character and Star Wars as a whole. With a few really wonderful episodes of its current show on Disney+, The Book Of Boba Fettplus so much more, the fandom is getting so many good things to enjoy. Typical of the Star Wars fandom, however, many are complaining. Such is the way of pop culture.
No complains from me! Especially not regarding this latest comics news. Written by Christopher Cantwell with art by Ario Anindito, the series sounds very promising. Star Wars: Obi-Wan finds the titular Jedi in the final days of his time on Tatooine, chronicling earlier adventures in his own journals. It’s only going to run for five issues, but that’s plenty of time to walk through Obi-Wan’s life. Marvel Comics confirms the series will include Kenobi’s time as a Jedi Initiate, Padawan missions, experiencing the Clone Wars as a Jedi Knight, and facing new threats as a Jedi Master.
We’ll get a bit of a more focused look at Obi-Wan in the Disney+ series. This mini-run seems perfect for mega fans wanting to look at the character across his years. As mentioned above, Ario Anindito handles art and the images in this article all come from preview pictures of the run. In the same release of the announcement, author Christopher Cantwell shared insights on his fandom of Kenobi.

Cantwell is a prolific writer but this upcoming run of Marvel’s Obi-Wan comic series hits close to home. The author explained to Star Wars that he watched the original film so many times on a recorded VHS that he has a unique memory tied to it. “I have the commercials for Nature Valley Chewy Bars and Kit Kat bars memorized just as much as all the dialogue.” For anyone wondering if Cantwell will hit the core of what makes Obi-Wan Kenobi so beloved, I offer this insight from his interview:
“What I love about Obi-Wan is that he is so much a character of patience and fortitude. He holds out hope and keeps that flame going even in the darkest times. He lost his Master, his best friend…he’s experienced a lot of grief. But he pushes forward.”
That says it all! Star Wars fans will not want to miss this series. If you’re excited about the Christopher Cantwell Obi-Wan run, then let us know in the comments! Thanks for reading as always and keep reading for more Star Wars, comics, and pop culture news!
